Kanaka Creek Dental Office Mural – Maple Ridge
Kanaka Creek Dental Office Mural
In early 2020 I created a custom mural for the newly opened Kanaka Creek Dental office in Maple Ridge BC. The mural included their logo, mission statement words and the nature that is represented in the area surrounding their office. The 2 trees on the left represent the 2 dentists, husband and wife, that opened the practice and the tree with nurse stump and seedling represents the families and generations that visit their office. Check out the timelaps video to see its full creation!
Surrey Memorial Hospital NICU waiting room
Surrey Memorial Hospital NICU Waiting Room
In 2018 I was commissioned by the Surrey Memorial Hospital in BC to create a large custom painting for their family waiting area in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We also chose some of my prints to help finish of the space and make it feel warm and welcoming. I was flattered to have been asked to create this painting because, due to my background working as a Nurse, I know how sterile and cold hospitals can be. I am so pleased to know my art can provide some comfort and distraction for families during a scary and stressful time. I included the Mission statement words of the unit in the roots of the tree which are inclusion, compassion, appreciation, partnership, value, diversity, caring, milestones, fulfillment.
North Delta Senior Secondary Mural
North Delta Senior Secondary Mural
In 2018 I was thrilled to be asked to paint a mural in the library of my old high school North Delta Senior Secondary in North Delta BC. It sure was a blast from the past to be back in my old stomping grounds! The mural is a tree that wraps around the top of the reading room and the trunk goes down the post. Each wall is a different season representing change and diversity. The shape of the mural made it difficult to photograph and look much better in person (wink). The mission statement words of the school are written in the tree bark!
Morgan Creek Medical Clinic Mural
Morgan Creek Medical Clinic Mural
In June of 2015 I created a mural in the waiting area of the Morgan Creek Medical Clinic in South Surrey. The large image and bright colors worked nicely to add some cheer to an otherwise sterile environment plus gave patients something to explore with their eyes while waiting for their doctor. The rest of the office also has my prints on each wall making for a continuous theme throughout.

BC Children’s Hospital Healing Project Mural
BC Children's Hospital Healing Project
In 2016 after a rigorous application process I was thrilled and honored to have been chosen as one of the artists to participate in the healing project at the new BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. I created an image that would wrap around the 24x24ft CT scanner room in an underwater harbor theme including orcas, seals and silly crabs! I also created an image for the ceiling that makes views feels they are looking up at the sky. The murals were revealed in July 2017 when the new hospital opened its doors. It is so exciting to think about the comfort and distraction my art will provide for kids and their parents going through a difficult time. As a past Nurse this has been such a special project to participate in! You can also find canvas prints of my art in the ER rooms and the dialysis area.

Shi Studio Jewelry Collaboration - The Artist Series
Since 2009 April has been collaborating with Victoria C based jewelry creator Cory Judge of Shi Studios to create ‘the Artist Series’. A handmade line of jewelry that combines April’s art printed on canvas then framed in glass by Cory.
In 2014 the BC Governor General’s office of BC commissioned April and Cory to created jewelry that would be given as gifts to Dignitaries and Royalty that visit the Governor Generals Office. April painted an original painting ‘Dogwood Breeze’ that was then reproduced on mini canvas and hand embellished by April. Cory framed them under glass to create pendants, earrings and cuff links. These were gifted to Prince William and Kate during their Canadian Visit in 2016.

Wrap project for the City of Richmond
In 2017 I was chosen by the City of Richmond to have my art showcased on recycling bins in all the Richmond City Parks. My painting ‘Deeply Rooted’ has been used to beautify parks. I felt so honoured!

Salmon Sculpture for City of Coquitlam
Salmon Sculpture for City of Coquitlam
In the spring of 2016 I was one of 12 artists chosen (via juried application) to paint a fiberglass salmon sculpture to help celebrate the 125 year anniversary of the City of Coquitlam. The piece needed to tell the story of the city. I used first nations inspired art in the eye of the Salmon to represent the Kwikwetlem First Nations band that first inhabited the area and worked hard to preserve the abundance of the salmon in the Coquitlam river. I also included elements that represent the Coquitlam river and the mountains that provide a backdrop for the city. The tree with its deep and intertwining roots represent the connection, growth and strength of the community. I held a contest to name the salmon and the winning name was ‘Kwik’. He is now on permanent public display in Mundy Park Coquitlam. Kwik loves visitors!
Mural at Live Well Exercise Clinics
Murals at Live Well Exercise Clinics
In February of 2015 I created the first Live Well Tree mural at the Live Well Exercise clinic in South Surrey BC. I later went on to create similar murals in their Kerrisdale, Abbotsford and Langley clinics. Since then my mural has been made into a large wall decal that each Live Well Franchise has in each clinic as they continue to open clinic’s Canada wide. My canvas prints can be found in each of the clinics as well. The Live Well program provides medically supervised exercise to clients who have or are at risk of developing chronic illnesses such as diabetes or heart disease. In the roots of the tree are the things that are needed to create change and in the fruit the participants write their wins! It has truly been an honour to be a part of such an amazing company that is changing lives!
