April Lacheur Art 2018 year in review!

As the end of 2018 approaches is time to reflect on another year of living my childhood dream of being an artist. It was a wonderful year filled with even more firsts! That is one of the many cool things about being an artist is there is always lots of opportunity to ‘branch out’ and try new things!

In February I had my first ever solo show at a public gallery. My show ‘Our Roots Exposed’ featured over 20 of my original paintings and looked wonderful all hanging together at the Port Moody Arts Center. What an exciting experience! February also brought my first time on a podcast! I was a guest on the ‘THRIVE art studio podcast’ taking about the joys and challenges of being an artist and even recorded a special episode for artists who are considering showing their work at art fairs. You can check it out here: https://www.thriveartstudio.com/podcast/ep-8-being-grateful-and-being-human-with-april-lacheur and here: https://www.thriveartstudio.com/podcast/bonus-artisan-markets-with-april-lacheur

As many of you know, I have been working with ‘Live Well Exercise Clinics’ to provide the art for their growing number of clinics. In March one of my murals was made into a 6x8ft wall decal that can now found in all of the franchise clinics and those that will open in the future! It was so cool to see my art as a large wall decal!

In May I was a part of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Studio tour for the first time. Over 170 people visited my home backyard studio ! I had so much fun! My art was even featured on the front cover of the map. Hope you can join me in 2019 Mothers Day weekend Sat and Sun. You can visit 40 artist studios in the area!

In June I guided my first ever art workshop at Ublossom retreat for women at Loon Lake in Maple Ridge. The title was ‘ Letting go and grabbing hold with art’. We let go of something that was not serving us through color and abstract art, then focused on overlaying with something that was important to us. The ladies had a great time and so did I ! I am looking forward to running this workshop again in June 2019 at Loon Lake Ublossom retreat! You can find out more about Ublossom here: https://ublossomretreats.com/

In July I had the opportunity to assist with an outdoor mural with THRIVE art studio as part of Vancouver Mural Festival. It was my first time painting on an outdoor wall and oh what fun it was! I just love this mural…. No rain no flowers!

In August I share my art for the first time on the sunshine coast at the Hackett Park Arts Festival .. Its always fun to share my art with new people!

I also completed a large custom painting for the NICU waiting room at Surrey Memorial Hospital. I love the idea of my art helping with healing and hope to do more projects like this in the future.

At the end of August came perhaps my most exciting day of they year. The announcement of my last day of my Nursing job and the movement into being a full time artists! You can read my blog post all about this milestone here: https://yapespaints.com/a-new-season-i-am-artist/

The holiday season brought my busiest time of year as usual with 4 back to back event in November. I participated in my first show in Calgary called Art Market and once again had a great time sharing my art with a new audience.

I am proud of the year I have had and feel it is important to look back and celebrate the accomplishments behind me before looking ahead. I am looking forward to 2019 as my first full year as a full time artists with lots of exciting projects and areas of focus on the horizon. I am always mindful and so thankful for those of you that support me and purchase my art. Without you I could not be following my passion and working at a job that I truly LOVE. Bring on 2019!
